Rory McIlroy has yet to play a single stroke in the Final Series, but he’s one of just four golfers with a chance to win the overall Race to Dubai title.
The other three are Jamie Donaldson, Sergio Garcia, and Marcel Siem.
Each of those three would have to win both the Turkish Airlines Open this week and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai to make that happen, but as Billy Horschel proved at the end of the PGA’s FedExCup, anything is possible.
McIlroy has given no indication if he will play in the Turkish Airlines Open this week. He’ll finish with at least 5,427,869 points merely by finishing last at Dubai.
If Donaldson won the two remaining tournaments, he would top 5.79 million points, but also have McIlroy finish no better than sixth at that final tournament.
Garcia could win both to finish with 5.70 million and need McIlroy to finish outside the top seven; while Siem, who won the BMW Masters to open the Final Series, would need McIlroy to finish 18th or worse.
McIlroy’s lead over Donaldson is just less than 3 million points currently. Garcia is third, Siem fourth, France’s Alexandeer Levy fifth, Henrik Stenson sixth and Justin Rose seventh.
