Jackson Country Club takes Center Stage for Sanderson Farms Championship

The Country Club of Jackson, Mississippi, gets its moment in the national spotlight starting Thursday, hosting the Sanderson Farms Championship for the first time.

The tournament was previously hosted by the Hattiesburg Country Club from 1968-1994, and by the Annadale Golf Club up until last year.

It’s perfect timing for the Jackson course, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The championship course measures 7,284 yards and was redesigned by John Fought in 2008.

Woody Austin is the defending champ, having shot 20-under a year ago to pull in $540,000. Scores of 20 under par are greater are common place for the winner. In 2012, Scott Stallings set the tournament record with a 24-under finish.

Austin returns to defend his title, won in a playoff over Cameron Beckman and Daniel Summerhays a year ago. Of Austin’s four PGA victories to date, three have come in playoff fashion.
