The Final Series remains in scenic Shanghai this week fro the WGC-HSBC Champions at the Sheshan International Golf Course, where a majority of the top 60 players in the Race to Dubai series are joined by a smattering of qualifiers from the Asian Tour.
The biggest stars get the latest tee times, most notably the power trio at morning’s end of Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, and Bubba Watson. Stenson is presently sixth in the points race, Rose fifth, and Watson granted a wild card after his impressive PGA season that included a win at the 2014 Masters.
Those three will be immediately preceded by Martin Kaymer, the 2014 US Open champion who is 12th in the Race to Dubai rankings, and paired here with two Americans – Jimmy Walker, who won three times on the PGA Tour last year, and 21-year-old phenom Jordan Spieth.
There are quite a few Americans in the mix starting Thursday. Also accepting wild cards are Ryan Moore, Chris Kirk, Bill Haas, Ryan Palmer, Gary Woodland, Rickie Fowler, Billy Horschel, Patrick Reed, Hunter Mahan, Keegan Bradley, Kevin Na, Jason Dufner, and Kevin Stadler.
It’s Dufner’s second tournament back after missing two months for injury. Hosrchel, who won the FedExCup in September, is also playing for just the second time since that victory and the birth of his first child.
Called “the crowning jewel of all of Asian golf” by Tiger Woods, the Sheshan International is a par-72, 7,143-yard course constructed by Nelson & Haworth Design. Current champion Dustin Johnson is MIA from the tour at present. Other former winners include Kaymer, Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson.
