Leading into the Final Series of the Race to Dubai, world No. 1 Rory McIlroy has looked all but assured of winning the overall title given his huge money lead – given he has more than double the earnings of the No. 2 man on the list, Sergio Garcia.
All that changed this week when McIlroy announced he will not take part in the first two events of the Final Series – the BMW Masters (Oct. 30 – Nov. 2) and WGC – HSBC Champions (Nov. 6-9), both in Shanghai, China.
McIlroy is also iffy for the Turkish Airlines Open (Nov 13-16), which leaves only the actual DP World Tour Championship in Dubai Nov. 20-23 on the schedule.
McIlroy is missing out on the tournaments to deal with an ongoing lawsuit between him and his former management team, Horizon Sports Management.
A court-directed mediation between the two parties failed ot result in a settlement. Horizon says McIlroy breached his contract when he left it early last year. McIlroy contends that he was underage when he signed the deal and that should void the arrangement.
