Eddie Pepperell, Gregory Havret, and Aaron Rai, three players nowhere near the top 60 of the Race to Dubai or the Top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) are the co-leaders after one round of the Qatar Masters being played at the Doha Golf Course this week.

The 27-year-old Pepperell, ranked 154th in the world and 188th in the Race to Dubai, fired eight birdies against a single bogey, including five on the back nine for his 65. He has one career victory, which came on the Challenger Tour.

Havret, ranked 484th in the world and 41 years old has three European Tour titles, but the last one came almost a decade ago. Havret was at even par through five holes before rattling six birdies off in the next eight holes and adding another on No. 16.

Rai, who won’t turne 23 until next week, won three times on the Challenger Tour last year, and is considered one of England’s top rising players. He finished with a flourish, an eagle on No. 18 to reach 7-under.

Four more players are tied at 6-under, one stroke behind the leaders, including Italy’s Edoardo Molinari.

India’s Shubhankar Sharma, currently first in the Race to Dubai standings shot a 3-under 69 and is tied for 40th after one round.
