Woods Donates $10K for Sifford Scholarship

Tiger Woods might not be the same player he once was on the links, but that’s not stopping his generosity off of them.

Woods donated $10,000 to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to create a scholarship honoring the late Charlie Sifford, who broke golf’s color barrier and who recently passed away at the age of 93.

Sifford broke through to play at a PGA event in 1961, 14 years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.

Sifford was never able to play at The Masters, which kept its strict bias against both minorities and women well past his playing days, but was on hand when Woods first won the Major there in 1997.
