Jason Day Rises to No. 4 in the World

Jason Day’s big win at the Farmers Insurance Classic saw the Australian rise to No. 4 in the world, making him the highest-ranked player from Down Under, edging past countryman Adam Scott.

It was a pretty major movement week in the Top 10, as Jim Furyk also moved up a spot to No. 6, bypassing Sergio Garcia. Justin Rose dropped a spot from seventh to eighth.

The week’s other big winner, India’s Anirban Lahiri, rose up 36 spots from 73rd to 37th after winning the Malaysian Open. He’s one spot behind Malaysian runner-up Bernd Wiesberger, who jumped from 48th to 36th.

At the other end of the spectrum, Tiger Woods, who withdrew from Torrey Pines after 11 holes last Thursday, dropped from 56th to 62nd in the overall rankings. Woods was 32nd at the end of 2014, and No. 1 in the world as recently as May of 2014.

Clearly, injuries are taking a toll on the 14-time Major winner. This is the lowest he’s bee ranked since he fell to 58th in November of 2011 after he returned to the tour following his bout with infidelity and divorce.
