Jason Day Joins FedEx Cup Top 10

Jason Day jumped from obscurity to the Top 10 in the latest FedEx Cup standings thanks to his win at Farmers Insurance Open.

Day, who has played just three events on the PGA this year, jumped from 53rd to 7th in the latest standings released on Monday.

Jimmy Walker continues to lead the overall chase, after finishing tied for seventh at Torrey Pines. Walker is the first player to break 1,000 points for the second year in a row, tallying 1,039 to date.

The top 125 players at the end of the regular season qualify for a four-week post-season run of tournaments that escalate in prize money and diminish in size of the field, ending in the Tour Championship.

Billy Horschel won the 2014 title, but is off to a slow start, just 96th in the current rankings.

Perennial favorites Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are both on the outside looking in so far. Mickelson has played three tournaments and has just 45 points, tying him for 168th.

Woods, yet to finish a tournament, has zero points, so is not ranked.
