GB&I Walker Cup Team Announced

The Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup initial 20-man squad has been announced this week. The final squad will take on the US at Royal Lytham and St. Anne’s in September.

The all amateur squad will be sorted and filed between now and August when a 10-man squad is finalized in hopes of gaining revenge on the US squad that squashed it 17-9 in the 2013 match at the National Golf Links of American held in New York.

Making the first cut are: Tomasz Anderson, David Boote, Daniel Brown, Adam Chapman, Ashley Chesters, Paul Dunne, Grant Forrest, Sam Horsfield, Paul Howard, Jack Hume, Gary Hurley, Nick Marsh, Jack McDonald, Gavin Moynihan, Jimmy Mullen, Bradley Neil, Graeme Robertson, Jamie Savage, Cormac Sharvin, and Ben Stow.

Nigel Edwards, team captain, said the roster has a lot promise.

“We have selected a strong squad of players and they will all know that they are in contention for a place on the team
and it is up to them to perform this season,” Edwards said. “As the season progresses, I am sure that a number of players who do not form part of this current squad will challenge for places on the team
as has happened in previous years with the likes of Steven Brown and Danny Willett playing their way on to the
2011 and 2007 teams. Players who do not form part of this squad can still play their way on to the
team for September.”

The match is played every two years in odd years. The US has won four of the last five titls.
