A homeless Honolulu woman who found Robert Allenby bloodied from an attack last Friday night has reported conflicting information to the pro golfer’s account of his encounter.
Allenby’s caddie informed media members last Sunday that Allenby had been abducted from a wine bar he was dining at, beaten, robbed, thrown in the trunk of a car, and wound up six miles away in a field.
On Monday, the homeless woman who found Allenby told an Australian TV station that he was a mere block from said bar when she found him.
Talking to the media on Monday, Allenby now says he only remembers getting thrown out of a car and then attacked by homeless people. According to Allenby’s report, the two men kicked him to see if he was still alive, then stole what he had left on him.
The homeless woman who assisted him, Charade Keane, said she knew the homeless men who had confronted Allenby, and she helped him get to a taxi back to his hotel. She also said Allenby was offering the men $500 to return his belongings.
Initially, Allenby said he went to the bathroom of the restaurant, and when he returned, strangers told him the friend he had been dining with was waiting for him in the parking garage.
When Allenby exited the elevator, he was allegedly attacked. What happened between him leaving the restaurant at 11 p.m. and Keane finding him at a 2 a.m. is anyone’s guess, although Honolulu police have reported they have video evidence of a suspect buying alcohol with one of Allenby’s stolen credit cards.
Allenby has withdrawn from the upcoming Humana Challenge.
