Sang-Moon Bae is off to a great start in the 2015 season, second place in the FedExCup standings with a win at the Frys.com Open.
But according to the South Korean news agency, the golfer has been denied an extension to his overseas travel permit, meaning he’ll need to return to South Korea at the end of December, where he’ll face military service.
South Korean law dictates that all male citizens ages 18-35 serve in the military for about two years unless they live overseas on a permit.
Bae is 28, and if he doesn’t return home within 30 days of his visa expiring, he could face criminal charges.
Bae’s lawyers are currently negotiating with the government over the situation.
