With a few weeks off for the holidays, world No. 1 Rory McIlroy took in a rugby match between Connacht and Ulster last week, and was the victim of a sharp stadium crew and fan base.
While McIlroy gave a mid-match interview to the BBC, the stadium crew spotted the interview taking place and showed it on the big screen, playing Neil Diamond’s classic “Sweet Caroline” in the background.
For the uninformed, McIlroy broke off his engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki last spring.
The fans, putting 2+2 together, joined in, belting out the famous chorus as an embarrassed McIlroy shook it off with a smile and an “Oh, boy.”
