Tiger Plays His Course in Cabo

It took some eight years of setbacks and red tape, but Tiger Woods finally got to play on the golf course he designed in Cabo San Lucas on Tuesday.

Woods, having dropped 15 pounds in 14 days thanks to a nasty virus, played the front nine while a crowd of nearly 500 looked on at El Cardonal at Diamante, a combination resort and housing complex.

Woods started his own course design business in 2006, but the global economic downturn saw three other projects- in Dubai, North Carolina, and Baja, Mexico, fall by the wayside.

Three months ago, Hurricane Odile struck the resort and pushed the opening back six weeks.

“His idea was to make it fun and make people enjoy it,” said Ken Jowdy, CEO and developer of Diamante. “It’s been great to work with him. I wondered if he was committed to being in the design business and committed to the project and the first time I met him it was clear.
