Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts made the most of his first-round 60 at the Portugal Colsaerts last Thursday, finishing second in the rain-soaked tournament and propelling himself into the Top 60 of the Race to Dubai standings with just three tournaments to go until the Final Series starts October 30.
Colsaerts just missed becoming the first player in European Tour history to record a single-round 59, just missing an 18-foot birdie on No. 18 in Thursday’s first round. Rain shortened the tournament to just two rounds, and Colsaerts ended up finishing second behind France’s Alexander Levy by three strokes.
Colsaerts isn’t exactly out of the woods in terms of qualifying. He’s 58th of 60 players in the field with €458,926. England’s Eddie Pepperell is currently on the outside looking in of the field, with €430,463 in prize money.
