Rory McIlroy Foundation Opens Retreat for Cancer-Stricken Families

Rory McIlroy has won a lot of money on the PGA and European Tours this year. Last Wednesday, he gave a whole lot of it back.

McIlroy was on hand for the official opening of the Daisy Lodge in Northern Ireland, a therapeutic break center for families affected by cancer. The Rory McIlroy Foundation donated £1 million to build the establishment, and also has pledged a further £250,000 yearly to run and maintain it.

“It is something at home and something I feel very strongly about. Being able to see what they have built for children and their families has been fantastic. It’s great to see what a superb job people are doing here, in trying to help people get back on their feet after being diagnosed with cancer. The facilities are unbelievable,” McIlroy said.
