Kronos Golf, an independent golf club maker, had its moment in the spotlight, rather passionately, on last week’s season premier of ABC business reality show Shark Tank, where several wealthy investors consider pitches from young entrepreneurs.
Phillip Lapuz, one of the two co-founders of the company, broke into tears in front of the Sharks, which include Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, when asked why he had started the company.
Apparently Lapuz, whose fiancee lives in Japan, can’t bring her to the US without her parents’ permission – parents who regard his start-up business as not safe enough to guarantee their daughter’s future comfort and well-being.
The quality of the clubs and the heartfelt approach won over Shark Robert Herjavec, who gave the businessmen $150,000 for 30% of the company.
