First look – Rory and Nike’s 2015 Vapor Pro Driver

Rory will be using the prototype Nike Vapor Pro Driver this week at the Ryder Cup.

What’s new? First and most obvious – Nike have ditched their red colour scheme for a bright neon yellow, known in Nike Parlance as ‘volt’.

The club itself has had a few technical improvements. It incorporates the new FlyBeam column into the Covert Cavity back design, which should help ping the ball off the face more. This works together with the re-engineered Compression Channel (the bit just behind the face) to really accentuate the spring-like effect. Finally, the improved FlexLoft 2 system allows you to choose from five lofts and three face angle settings, and it’s about 5g lighter than it’s predecessor.

Rory rates it. “The first thing I noticed when I hit this driver was how hot it was,”  said McIlroy. “Then, I found that I could really control the flight and work it both ways on the golf course. I saw added ball speed on the monitor and am getting 10-15 yards more distance on the golf course this week.”

Or, to translate it out of PR talk, it looks awesome and goes like the clappers.
