Joost Luiten Cracks Race to Dubai’s Top 10

The golfer with the unique name and unforgettable haircut is making a late-season push to become more memorable for his playing style.

The Netherlands’ Joost Luiten won the Welsh Open on Sunday and has risen to No. 10 in the latest Race to Dubai standings. Luiten has earned €1.36 million in prize money this year, pushing him ahead of South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen in cash won.

With just five tournaments remaining before the start of The Final Series, golfers are fighting their way into the Top 60 qualifying spots. This week’s Ryder Cup will provide a respite before several big money events close ou the season – Dunhill Links, the Portugal Masters, Volvo World Match Play, the Hong Kong Open and the Perth International.

Seventeen players have cracked the €1 million milestone, but only two are above €2 million – Sergio Garcia at €2.28 million and runaway leader Rory McIlroy at €5.12 million.

At the other end of the spectrum, England’s David Horsey currently holds the No. 60 spot, having accrued €407,178 so far this year. His hold is quite the tenuous one. South Africa’s Darren Fichardt is less than €3,000 behind him, and there are six other golfers with €50,000.
