The cream usually rises to the top late in the golf season, and such was the case Friday at the KLM Open at the Kennemer Golf and Country Club in Zandvroot, The Netherlands.
Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal, ranked 24th in the Race to Dubai and 70th in the world, tied the course record with an 8-under 62 to take over the lead.
The top three men on the leaderboard are in the top 60 of the Race to Dubai. Larrazabal leads Italy’s Edoardo Molinari and France’s Romain Wattel by two strokes each.
Larrazabal, starting on the back nine, kicked off his round with six straight birdies and hit the turn 6-under with a 28. He was 8-under through 16 holes, and had an outside chance at a 59 before bogeying No. 8. He finished with another birdie on 9.
