No. 2 Adam Scott Surges Into Tie for Barclays Lead

Adam Scott was No. 1 in the world for a lot of 2014 despite not winning any of the four Majors. But a FedExCup title wouldn’t be so bad either.
Scott fired a 65 on Friday to tie Cameron Tringale for the lead after 36 holes at the first leg of the four-week playoff series.
Scott is the defending champion of this tournament, and is at 8-under through two days. He was 32nd to star the day after an opening-round 68, but rifled four straight birdies on the front nine Friday.
Tringale was 1-over through 12 holes after a double bogey, then birdied four of his last six holes to end up with a 68.
A whopping 36 players are still within five strokes of the lead, including world No. 1 Rory McIlroy,
After sleepwalking to a 3-over 74 on Thursday, McIlroy was a birdie machine on Friday, knocking in six of them for a 65 to jump from 102nd to a tie for 27th at 3-under.
Three players, including hard-luck Jim Furyk are tied for third at 7-under. The 2013 overall FedExCup winner Henrik Stenson made a big move up, tying for the best round of the day with a 7-under 64 to reach 6-under, moving from 73rd to tied for sixth with Ernie Els, Day 1 leader Bo Van Pelt, Jason Day, Kevin Na and Russell Knox.
Day also shot a 64.
Seventy-two players in all made the cut, set at 1-over, which left luminaries including Jimmy Walker, Harris English, Webb Simpson and Martin Kaymer on the wrong side of things.
Kaymer started the playoffs ranked No. 3 in points, with Simpson 13th, Kaymer 14th and English 17th.
