Phil Mickelson Surges Onto Ryder Cup Roster

Phil Mickelson’s big finish at the PGA Championship, paired with Jason Dufner’s neck injury, have Lefty back on the US Ryder Cup roster for a record-setting 10th time.

The PGA Championship was the final event for Americans to qualify to make the team. With Ryder Cup points counting double in Major championships, Mickelson moved up to No. 5 on the list.

He’s joined on the team by Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and Zach Johnson.

That roster has a decidedly different fill than it did two weeks ago. Dufner will likely still make the team as one of captain Tom Watson’s three extra selections to be made on September 2, but gone from the mix is Dustin Johnson, who abruptly left the tour two weeks ago amid rumors of a failed drug test and infidelity on the tour.

The Ryder Cup commences Sept. 26-28 in Scotland.
