Rory McIlroy became the first European Tour golfer to crack the €3 million mark in winnings this year thanks to his come-from-behind performance at the WGC-Bridgestone last week.
He and WGC runner-up Sergio Garcia now inhabit the top two spots in the Race to Dubai standings, both having lapped former leader Thomas Bjorn.
McIlroy has cashed in on €3.77 million in earnings, with Garcia at €2.24 million.
Bjorn, the leader from February until just before The Open Championship, is third at €1.69 million, with US Open winner Martin Kaymer fourth at €1.57 million.
2013 Race to Dubai winner Henrik Stenson is ninth at €1.28 million.
The top 60 players in earned prize money qualify for the year-end stretch, which begins at the BMW Masters in November, and continues at the WGC-HSBC Champions, the Turkish Airlines Open and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. A combined total of €22.7 million ($30.5 million) is on the line in prize money over those four weeks.
There are a possible 12 tournaments left on the schedule for Euro players to try and make a move into the top 60. The 60th spot is currently held by Swedend’s Magnua Carlsson at €312,554.
