Rory McIlroy Three Strokes Behind Sergio Garcia at Bridgestone

Sergio Garcia should feel confident with a 3-stroke lead heading into the final round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

So why is everyone so focused on the man who’s three strokes down?

Garcia shot a 61 on Friday in Round 2 and added a 3-under 67 on Saturday to sit at 14-under, three strokes ahead of The Open Championship winner Rory McIlroy, who has a chance to take over the No. 1 ranking in the world should he track Garcia down.

Saturday’s round was delayed three hours by rain. When it finally ended, McIlroy finished his round with back-to-back birdies, one on a 35-foot putt,  to record a 4-under 66.

Garcia looked ready to run away with the title, he was 4-under through 11 holes, but 1-over the rest of the way.

Australia’s Marc Leishman, the Day 1 leader, fired a 2-under 68 to get to 9-under, keeping him within five strokes of the lead.

The biggest push on the day was made by world No. 1 Adam Scott, who shot a 65 to jump from 12th to a tie for fourth. Ironically, even if McIlroy should rally past Garcia for the title, Scott could still retain the No. 1 ranking if he finishes in the top 5.

Scott is tied with Keegan Bradley and Justin Rose at 8-under.

Defending champion Tiger Woods fell completely off the radar, shooting a 2-over 72 to tumble to a tie for 36th at 1-over for the tournament.
