Rory, Jack, & Tiger: A Comparison

With his victory at The Open Championship on Sunday, Rory McIlroy entered elite company, becoming just the third man in PGA history to record victories at three of the four Majors championship by the age of 25.

The other two? Jack Nickalus, who has 18 Majors all-time, and Tiger Woods, who has 14.

The company is monumental, but so too is McIlroy’s effort, particularly considering many critics believed he was but a “flash in the pan” when he followed his two Major wins in 2011-2012 with a series of struggles, gaffes and what some believed rather petulant behavior.

The victory Sunday at Hoylake however, is something akin to a wake-up call, perhaps both to the critics and to McIlroy himself, of how very young he still is, and how immensely talented as well.
