Open Championship Buggy Drama

The drama at the 2014 Open Championship kick started late Wednesday evening. A 45-year-oldman, is believed to have driven a golf buggy out of the main gates and hit a security guard ,before crashing into a barrier shortly after. The official isn’t thought to be seriously hurt, with just a minor leg injury.

Merseyside police said a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. A spokesman said: “We can confirm that a man has been arrested following an incident at The Open golf practice day in Hoylake at about 7.30pm this evening”

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, at the R&A, said: “Police are now investigating and I cannot say any more at this time.”
