Justin Rose has had a ho-hum campaign for most of 2014. Good enough to make the FedEx Cup, but not exactly a contender to win the thing.
Rose changed all that Sunday when he won Congressional, rising from 43rd to 12th in the FedEx Cup Standings, surging to 1,240 points with the addition of 500 points on Sunday.
There were just two small moves in the Top 10 – Jordan Spieth moved up from sixth to fifth, thanks to his Top 10 finish at Congressional; it was his sixth of the 2014 season. He’s the only man in the Top 10 of the standings to not have won a tournament so far this season.
Patrick Reed, who was also in contention late on Sunday, moved up from ninth to eighth.
Tiger Woods, who missed the cut at the Quicken Loans National, did not earn any points, and remains in 208th place with a meager 43 points. Woods must finish in the top 125 spots in total points to make it to the FedEx Cup, which he has won twice (2007, 2009) and was the runner-up at in 2013.
