Finand’s Mikko Ilonen wasn’t the best golfer on the course on Friday at the Irish Open, but his second-round 68 was still good enough to maintain a four-stroke lead.
Ilonen is 10-under through 36 holes, two strokes ahead of England’s Robert Rock, who is in pursuit of a place in next month’s British Open if he finishes in the top three this weekend.
Rock fired a 5-under 66 to get to 8-under for the tournament, tied for second with Graeme McDowell and Romain Wattel.
Wattel, Matthew Nixon and Gareth Maybin tied for the best round of the day, each firing a 65.
Tournament favorite Rory McIlroy missed the cut, finishing at 1-over despite a second-round 69. Matthew Fitzpatrick, in his first event as a professional, made the cut thanks to his 2-under 69 to get to 1-under through 36 holes.
