Just another perk of winning the 2014 US Open – Martin Kaymer is suddenly knocking at the door of the Top 10 ranked golfers in the world.
Kaymer leaped from 28th to 11th in the latest Official World Golf Rankings. He was ranked 39th at the end of the 2013 season.
Inside the Top 10, the only change was at the back end, where Jordan Spieth moved up to ninth while dropping Justin Rose back to 10th. Spieth’s ascension without actually winning a tournament continues to be impressive, considering the second-year player won’t turn 21 for another month.
With another less-than-inspiring Major performance, Phil Mickelson fell back from 11th to 13th.
Rickie Fowler, who finished tied for second at the US Open, also made a sizable leap, from 39th to 27th. But nothing could compare to the move made by his co-runner-up, Erik Compton, who soared from 187th to 73rd.
It was Compton’s first top 3 finish since 2011, and only his third since 2006.
