Burhill Golf Club has earned the internationally acclaimed sustainability ecolabel, GEO Certified.
This milestone marks the halfway point for owners the BGL Golf group in its campaign to become the world’s first multi-site operator to achieve the distinction at each of its venues – an ambition the company aims to achieve by 2015.
BGL Golf, which is owned by Lord Iveagh and members of the Guinness family, operates ten venues across the UK, including Abbey Hill Golf Centre, Milton Keynes, Birchwood Park Golf Centre, Dartford, Hoebridge Golf Centre, Woking and Redbourn Golf Club, St Albans, which achieved GEO Certified in 2013.
GEO Certified recognises golf businesses which demonstrate an operational commitment to the three core principles of sustainability – planet, people and profit.
The international ecolabel is the global benchmark for sustainability in golf businesses and is administered by the Golf Environment Organization (GEO) according to strict codes set by ISEAL, the global leader in defining credibility in sustainability standards.
Jonathan Smith, GEO chief executive, said: “BGL Golf continues to show outstanding commitment to the longevity of its operations and is an industry leader in sustainable business management.”
Colin Mayes, BGL chief executive, said: “We have targeted the GEO ecolabel across the group because it matches our own brand values, rewards a holistic view of sustainable business, and it verifies the manner in which we operate, ensuring the longevity of our venues.”
Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, Nottingham – one of the company’s seven public pay-and-play facilities – is on course to become the sixth BGL Golf venue to achieve GEO Certified soon.
