FIRST LOOK: GOLFBUDDY LR3 LASER

Earlier this year, GolfBuddy, the world’s most innovative golf GPS company, launched its first ever laser rangefinder with the stunning new LR3.

By entering the laser category, GolfBuddy signalled its intent to become the global leader in complete golf distance measuring devices (DMDs).

Weighing just 200grams, this new golf laser retails for just £219 and is the most compact, light and powerful rangefinder in the market, packed with features to help golfers get the ultimate in on-course yardage accuracy.

This includes:
•    Accuracy: +/- 1m
•    Yards or metres display
•    Water and dust resistant (IPX4 structure design)
•    10-seconds laser beam
•    Compact, lightweight & ergonomic body
•    Automatic shut-off after 10 seconds
•    Default to “Last Used” settings
•    Up to 5,000 scans battery life
•    Multi-coated lenses
•    6x magnification
•    Diopter adjustment (eyepiece focus adjustment)
•    Suitable for glasses wearers
•    7 degree field of view
•    23mm objective lens

On first impressions, the GolfBuddy LR3 has superb ergonomics. It sits beautifully in the hand and is equipped with three operational modes which are easy to select.

‘Scan’ provides a continuous 10-second display of all objects located; ‘Flag’ homes in on the pin and factors out background noise from tress etc, to give precise readings; and ‘Normal’ provides a single distance to any chosen target from flag to dogleg point or hazard edge.

John Ennis, GolfBuddy Global Head of Sales and Marketing, said the launch of the company’s first laser was in direct response to extensive research carried out by GolfBuddy in Europe.

It seems its award-winning handheld and wearable GPS devices are much more popular than lasers with higher-handicap category 3 and 4 players, although they are used by a significant number of better players too.

Lasers, meanwhile, are very popular with category 1 and 2 players who aren’t as wayward as higher handicappers and are therefore more often in a position to attack the pin.

Better players also want their lasers to pick up multiple reference points, not just the flag, so the choice of operating modes allows players to get distances to points like the lips of bunkers, edges of greens and dogleg corners.

And as with all GolfBuddy products, there are no expensive annual membership fees, no hidden costs and the LR3 is ready to go right out of the box. GolfBuddy LR3 has a SRP of £219.

GolfBuddy is based in La Palma, Ca, with product development and course data management centres in Korea, one of the world’s leading suppliers of high-quality electronic products.
