Crane Still Leads Rain-Delayed St. Jude

The results on Saturday at the FedEx St. Jude Classic were the same as they had been Friday: More Ben Crane, but way more rain.

The tournament leader managed to play just six holes and went 28 hours between rounds thanks to another lengthy rain delay.  His lead dwindled from six strokes at the end of Friday to four strokes, but he has another 12 holes to make up for it come Sunday morning.

Crane will play the rest of round three at 7 a.m. Sunday if the weather holds, then be back for the final round that afternoon.  He birdied No. 1 on Saturday and then hit five straight pars to reach 13-under.

American Troy Merritt made it through seven holes on Saturday and is at 9-under for the tournament, 2-under on the round.

None of the 72 players who made the cut were able to finish their third round, although a few got as deep as the 15th hole.

Only two players in the Top 10 made it through the front nine: Americans Matt Every and Andrew Svoboda, who are tied for seventh at 6-under. At 3-under through 12 holes, Every is having the best third round so far.

British Open champion Phil Mickelson made it through the front nine on Saturday and is at even par, keeping him at 5-under and tied for 11th.

  1. I am watching the event right now, last round. Ben Crane really has his short game working today, he is not hitting many greens at all, but is still making a lot of pars. My son used to play with Troy Merritt in college, Troy was a couple years a head of my son, but after one tournament, my son said that he played with this kid that can really golf his ball, that was Troy Merritt, the following year he was medalist at the Q school. Pretty cool for sure
