Father and son duo, Rob and Luke Jones claimed the opening event of the popular Adult / Junior Par-3 Series at Hoebridge Golf Centre.
A combined 49 Stableford points around the short Maybury Course was enough to win the event by four points from Matthew and Ryan Edwards, who, in turn, finished three points ahead of third place Yan and David Liu.
The public pay-and-play centre – part of BGL Golf, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator – hosts the annual competition for adults and junior golfers up to the age of 17 years old, on the Short Course layout, which features 18 holes ranging from 72 to 182-yards, running through woodland and over hills.
Mike O’Connell, Hoebridge Golf Centre Senior General Manager, said: “It was great to see new pairs competing alongside old faces. The competition has got off to a flying start, and we look forward to welcoming all competitors back for the second round in July.
“For anyone interested in playing in the series, who missed the first round, it’s not too late to join in. Partnerships participating in the second or even third round still have the opportunity to make the grand final.”
In July, the second round will be played under a similar greensomes format to the first, where both golfers tee-off and select the best before continuing to take alternate shots.
The last preliminary round, played in September, will be a betterball-stableford, where the best score from the partnership on each hole is counted.
The grand final will be staged at Hoebridge Golf Centre on October 18, 2014.
