Thongchai Jaidee

In the end, ‘Henrik Stenson’ wasn’t the name on everyone’s lips at the Nordea Masters in Sweden.

It was one a bit more difficult to pronounce.

Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee outplayed France’s Victor Dubuisson and Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher in a three-man playoff to take the title at the PGA National in Sweden on Sunday.

Jaidee’s 65 in the final round tied him with Dubuisson and Gallacher at 16-under, and birdied the first playoff hole while both of the other players missing long birdie putts to seal the win.

Jaidee started the round with three straight birdies and hit the turn at 3-under par. He eagled No. 11 and added two more birdies to finish the back nine at 4-under, jumping from seventh to first on the last day of the tournament.

Dubuisson carded a 67 and Gallacher a 68 to tie for second. The Netherlands’ Robert_jan Derksen also made a huge push on the final 18 holes, firing a 7-under 65 to get to 15-under for the tournament. Derksen hit five birdies and an eagle on the day, and was the best golfer in the field over the final two days, combining to go 12-under on Saturday and Sunday.

The aformentioned Stenson fell from first to fifth int he final standings with a ho-hum 71 on his final day. It looked like the tournament was his for the taking early on as he was 3-under through five, but the remaining 12 holes saw him hit four bogeys, including a dooming one on No. 18.
