BMW PGA Championship Preview

This week marks the 60th Anniversary of the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Club, Surrey. The field consists of 98 Tour winners, with 434 titles between them. It also includes 10 major champions, all vying to win the tournament that Matteo Manassero won a year prior. This week could see Europe have another World No.1, with Henrik Stenson potentially only needing a top 20 finish, to upstage newly crowned Adam Scott. History was made last week, with Miguel Angel Jimenez triumph at the Open De Espanola, making him the only player to win a European tour event above the age of 50, could this week see Jimenez, break yet another record? We look for this week’s top tips.

Jonas Blixt returns to European soil for the first time this year. He currently sits 7th in the Race to Dubai, having earned over 700,000 euros. This is mainly thanks to a stellar T2 on his Masters debut, and a couple of top 20 finishes at the WGC events. Blixt sits T2 in Average Putts per round, and leads the tour in 1 Putt Percentage. Although this is his first start in this event, he offers a genuine chance at victory at a decent price of 50/1

Ernie Els is no stranger to the Wentworth Club. He has been a member and a home owner of the club for several year. He was also instrumental in the redesign of the course in 2005 and in 2007. Although he has never won the tournament before, he has been 2nd on two occasions, and was T6th at last year’s event. He currently sits 18th on the Race to Dubai, amassing over 400,000 Euros in just six starts. He is paying 50/1 this week, a great price for a four time major champion, and the course designer!

Tommy Fleetwood is making quite a name for himself on the European Tour. The 2013 Johnnie Walker Champion, has followed on from a breakout season, and sits 16th on the Race to Dubai standings, with nearly 500,000 Euros to his name. He has had two top 10 finishes in his last 3 starts, including a 2nd place finish at the Volvo China Open. This week he is paying 150/1, and offers a great price for a player who’s in form.
