Here’s a look at some staggering stats and fascinating facts about Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who the Open de Espana at age 50 on Sunday.

 

January 5, 1964: Jimenez’s birthday. Lyndon Johnson was in office as US President, less than two months after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Sir Alec Douglas-Home was Prime Minister of England, although not for very long. He lost a narrow general election that autumn.

1982: The year Jimenez turned pro. Tom Watson won the US and British Opens that year, Craig Stadler the Masters and Raymond Floyd the PGA Championship. Tiger Woods turned seven that year.

1992: Jimenez’s first professional win – the Piaget Belgian Open, which he won by three strokes over England’s Barry Lane. Jimenez was 28 years old at the time.
