Nothing like your first PGA title to all but guarantee you a spot in the year-end tournament that promises wild riches and lots of publicity.
HP Byron Nelson Championship winner Brendon Todd is knowing that feeling this Monday morning as he vaulted from 51st to 11th in the latest FedExCup standings released.
The top 125 players in the FedExCup rankings qualify for the season-ending series of four tournaments. Based on their finishes in each of those four tournaments, players are cut, re-seeded and eventually earn cash prizes for their final standings.
Points are accrued by places in Major tournaments as well as many other events. Todd earned 500 points for winning the Byron Nelson to total 1,069 for the season.
The Top 10 remained almost completely untouched with the exception of Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed, who swapped places at No. 4 and No. 5.
Jimmy Walker continues to lead the hunt with 2,172 points, more than 300 ahead of Masters champion Bubba Watson. Even though points during the four-week, end-of-season tournament are far more plentiful than during the regular season, accruing plenty of points now is often just as important, as it allows players to make cuts, even if they don’t do well at the opening rounds of the Cup.
