At some point, they’ll finish the first round of the Madeira Islands Open in Portugual. At least, that’s what every player in the field keeps telling themselves.

A full 35 players out of the field of 156 still have yet to finish their first rounds as interminable fog has drenched the coast of the Islands.

Scotland’s Scott Henry, who finished his first round on Friday, is still the leader in the club house at 5-under. Two men are behind him at 4-under, including England’s Lloyd Kennedy, who finished a bogey-free round on Saturday to sit just a stroke back of the lead.

A third player, Spain’s Antonio Hortal, is at 4-under through 16 holes. Hortal started the back nine with five birdies on his first seven holes. He has 17 and 18 yet to play.

On Saturday the decision was made to reduce the tournament to 36 holes. This is the first time an European Tour event has been reduced to 36 holes since the 2010 Nelson Mandela tournament.
