The Euro Tour leaps across a pair of continents this week to lovely Portugal for the Madeira Islands Open.
Oliver Fisher is the top-ranked player heading into the tournament at Clube de Golf do Santo da Serrra.
He’s currently 48th in the Race to Dubai and has missed just one cut in nine tournaments this season.
He finished second at the Africa Open, falling in a playoff to Thomas Aiken.
Also in the field is Ricardo Santos, who won the title here in 2012, the first time a Portuguese native has won a
Portuguese hosted event in the history of the European Tour.
The tournament will be a celebration in and of itself, as it marks the 1,500th event in European Tour history.
Madeira is famous for producing first-time winners. In its 20-year history, nine players have made it their first career title.
The course at Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra checks in at 6,826 yards and is a par-72. Lengths range from the 168-yard, par-3 No. 8
to the 572-yard, par-5 No. 11.
