World Top 10 golfer, Sergio Garcia, has announced he will compete in The European Tour’s Open de España, at PGA Catalunya Resort, near Barcelona, May 15-18.
Sergio’s presence at this year’s event is only the second time he has played in Spain’s national Open in recent years. His appearance last year – where he finished 12th – was his first since 2003.
“I am thrilled to once again play in the Open de España, especially with it being at PGA Catalunya Resort. The venue’s facilities, including its Stadium Course, are spectacular, and it is where we opened our first Junior Golf Academy, in collaboration with Fundación Sergio Garcia,” commented Garcia.
The Castellón-born golfer will arrive in Catalonia in good form having won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in January, and also finish ninth at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona and third in the Shell Houston Open.
Garcia, who won the Open de España in 2002, continued: “I’m sure it will be a great week for golf in Spain and I hope the public will enjoy coming to watch us play.”
Of his 23 professional wins to date, 10 have been on The European Tour, nine on the PGA Tour and four on the Asian Tour. He has also been on four winning European Ryder Cup teams (2002, 2004, 2006 and 2012).
