Expert Picks: The Greenbrier Classic
The Old White TPC plays host to the PGA TOUR this week for The Greenbrier Classic. Last year saw Angel Cabrerra take the title by two strokes over George McNeill. Last week’s champion Bubba Watson headlines the field, which also sees Tiger Woods return for the first time since the worst major performance of his career at last month’s US Open.
J.B Holmes is having a stellar year on tour with 3 top-5 finishes in 16 starts including a win at the Shell Houston Open back in April. Holmes ranks 6th on tour for total driving distance and 11th for strokes gained tee-to-green. In his last start he finished T-27th at the US Open, and at last year’s Greenbrier Classic he finished a respectable T-23rd. Currently ranked No.25 in the world, Holmes is good value at 28/1 to capture his second PGA TOUR title of the year.
Last week Paul Casey lost on the second playoff hole to Bubba Watson, his second playoff loss this season. Despite this he has shot up the world golf rankings to World No.23 having started the year at 75th, mainly down to 6 top-10’s in 15 starts. Casey is currently ranked 6th on tour for green in regulation percentage, and 7th in ball striking. The Englishman heads into this week 2nd favorite behind Bubba Watson at 25/1.
Tony Finau is currently leading last year’s Web.com TOUR graduates on tour this season. Finau has recorded 4 top-10 so far, and has been inside the top-25 in his last 6 starts on the PGA TOUR. Finau currently ranks 7th on tour for driving distance. Finau enters this week paying 40/1 to capture his first PGA TOUR title.
Kevin Kisner like Paul Casey has also had the misfortune of suffering two playoff losses this season at the Players Championship and the RBC Heritage. Despite this, the World No.46 has recorded 5 top-10’s in 21 starts, and in his last start he finished T-12th at the US Open. Kisner is the highest ranked FedEx Cup player in this week’s field to have not won an event this season. Currently ranked No.46 in the world, Kisner is great value at 33/1 to capture his first PGA TOUR title of his career.
