Gomez Rides Hot Streak to St. Jude’s Title
Argentina’s Fabian Gomez fired a bookend 66 on Sunday to take the Fedex St. Jude’s Classic title in Memphis, the final tournament before the US Open in Seattle.
Gomez, who shot between 66 and 68 in all four rounds, had just one bogey on the day to finish 13-under, winning the tournament by four strokes over the UK’s Greg Owen. It is the 36-year-old Gomez’s first victory on the PGA Tour.
Owen was 2-under through sevn holes, but made three bogeys between 9 and 14 to take himself out of contention.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson stroked a fourth-round 65, his best round of the season to date, to end up tied for third at 8-under. Mickelson birdied four of his first five holes and three more between 14 and 18 on the day.
Brooks Koepka, the leader after Days 1 and 2, also finished tied for third after a final-round 70.
