Owen, Gomez Take Lead at St. Jude
The UK’s Greg Owen and Argentina’s Fabian Gomez each shot a 3-under 67 Saturday to jump into a tie for the lead at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis.
Both players had been tied for fourth entering the round, but took advantage of former leader Brooks Koepka’s 1-over 71.
Owen had just one blemish on his card, a bogey on No. 10. Gomez had three bogeys, but made up for it by striking six birdies, including four in a five-hole stretch between No. 2 and No. 6.
Kopeka fell to a tie for third, bogeying three of his first five holes, but slipping an eagle in at No. 3 to keep things from being worse.
The best round of the day came from Australian Tim Wilkinson, who nailed a 5-under 65 to rise to a tie for seventh from 53rd. Wilkinson had six birdies on the day.
Defending champion Ben Crane tumbled out of contention, staggering to a 4-over 74 to fall from 15th to tied for 47th. Crane was at even par until the last three holes, when he shot a double-bogey 7 on No. 16, then two more bogeys on 17 and 18.
