Six Share Irish Lead After 36 Holes

The Irish Open proved to be an international affair on Friday as six players representing five countries tied for the lead at 3-under.

Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger, Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen, Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, and England’s Tyrrell Hatton and Chris Wood are all tied for the lead.

Kjeldsen has not won on the European Tour since 2009. He turned 40 two weeks ago.

Northern Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, who was the leader after Day One, struggled to a 73 to drop one stroke off the lead.

Fellow Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy carded a 71 after his horrific 80 on Thursday, but did not make the cut. A three-putt on No. 15 likely cost him a spot in the weekend group.  It’s the third straight year McIlroy has missed the cut.

The No. 1 player in the world is taking the next two weeks off before the US Open.
