Preview: AT&T Byron Nelson Classic
Inclement weather appears to be the unfortunate heavy favorite at this weekend’s AT&T Byron Nelson Classic, as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, already doused with 5 inches of rain in the past 7 days, has at least a 60% chance of more precipitation for the next four days.
If sunny skies prevail, the field will include eight former champions, including last year’s winner, Brendon Todd.
The annual tournament is being held at the Four Seasons Resort at Las Colinas, a par-70, 7,166-yard course that went through a major overhaul in 2007.
Ten of the top 30 players in the world are here, including Jordan Spieth, who made his debut on a PGA Tour event here as a 16-year-old amateur.
The tournament has been famous of late for producing first-time Tour wins – including Todd’s last year, as well as Sang Moon Bae (2013), Keegan Bradley (2011), and Jason Day (2010).
Some of the more prolific trios paired together for the Thursday opening rounds include (all times local):
7:40 a.m. (back nine) – Charley Hoffman, Angel Cabrera, Charl Schwatzel
7:50 a.m. (front nine) – Hunter Mahan, Ian Poulter, Scott Piercy
7:50 a.m. (back nine) – Jimmy Walker, Dustin Johnson, Sangmoon Bae
8:00 a.m. (back nine) – Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson
12:50 p.m. (front nine) – Jason Day, Brendon Todd, Keegan Bradley.
1:00 p.m. (front nine) – Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas
