Byeong-Hun An ran away with the BMW PGA Championship title on Sunday, breaking the tournament record by two strokes and finishing 21-under, winning the event by six strokes.

An is only the second rookie – he’s 23 – to ever win the premiere event, moving inside the Top 60 in the rankings and guaranteeing himself entry into the US Open and The Open Championship as a result.

He was 7-under for a 65 in the final round, cruising past tour veterans Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thongchai Jaidee, who finished tied for second.

“I wasn’t expecting this,” An said. “I didn’t know that a win was this close. It came all of a sudden. I’ve been playing well all year but I never thought I would win this event.
After shooting a 71 on the first day, An was 20-under over the final three rounds. He gave no one a chance to catch him Sunday, shooting a bogey-free round and notching an eagle on No. 12 – a hole he played 5-under for the tournament with three birdies and the eagle.
