George Coetzee Wins Mauritius in Playoff
South Africa’s George Coetzee birdied both playoff holes to edge Thorbjorn Olesen and win the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on Sunday at Domaine de Bel Ombre.
Olesen had the lead all by himself after Coetzee bogeyed 16 and the Norwegian birdied 17, but Coetzee fired back with a birdie on 18 to force the playoff.
It looked like Coetzee would run away and hide with the victory early on. After firing a 65 on Saturday, he birdied three of his first five holes on Sunday, but was +2 between holes 5 and 17.
Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, ranked just 437th in the world, finished third by one stroke at 12-under.
It is the third win of Coetzee’s career on the European Tour, and the second this season. He previously won the Tshawne Open as well as the 2014 Joburg Open.
