Mickelson Out, Ilonen In Match Play

Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the WGC-Cadillac Championships this week, the third straight year he will not compete, and the fourth time in five years.

Mickelson cited “personal reasons” as his explanation for withdrawing, which clears the way for Finland’s Mikko Ilonen to enter the field.

Ilonen is coming off a tie for 18th at the Volvo China Open last week, but that’s his lone Top 20 finish of the year to date.

Last season was Ilonen’s only time to play in the WGC Match Play. He made it to the second day, finishing tied for 33rd.
