Tiger: See You at Augusta

As has become his staple over the years, Tiger Woods made an enormous announcement on his official website Friday in exceptionally short order.

“I’m playing in the Masters,” Woods said Friday afternoon. “It’s obviously very important to me, and I want to be there.

“I’ve worked a lot on my game and I’m looking forward to competing. I’m excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone’s support.”

The 39-year-old Woods hasn’t played in nine weeks and hasn’t won a tournament since 2013 or a Major since 2008. He has won The Masters four times, more than anyone other man except Arnold Palmer, but hasn’t won at Augusta National since 2005 – a victory that started a run in which Woods won six Majors in four years.

Woods has played in just three tournaments this year – his own Hero Challenge, in which he finished 17th (last) with an even-par 77-70-69-72 – 288; the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where he missed the cut with a 73-82 – 155; and the Farmers Insurance Open, which he withdrew from early in the second round.

The second-round 82 at Phoenix was the worst round of his career.
