Fisher Catches Lead at Africa Open
Trevor Fisher Jr. has had a solid beginning to his season, despite being ranked 271st in the world.
He’s already recorded two top 15 finishes this year on the African swing of the European Tour, and soared to the top of the Africa Open leaderboard on Saturday with a brisk 9-under 63, punctuated by seven birdies and an eagle 3 on the par-5, 504-yard No. 3, his second straight eagle on that particular hole.
The 63 gives him a two-stroke lead on Matt Ford, who fired a 69 to move to 14-under. Fisher is 16-under with this third straight sub-70 score.
Seven men in all are at least 10 strokes under par, which means any one of them could take the field on an exciting Sunday finish. Making a big push in addition to Fisher was Norway’s Morten Orum Madsen, who fired a 64 to rise to 10-under. Only a bogey on No. 9 kept Madsen, who struggled to 71s on the first two days, from shooting a 62.
