Sullivan Races Past Coetsee to Win Joburg

Both Andy Sullivan and Wallie Coetsee shot 71s during the Joburg Open last weekend in South Africa.

The difference? Sullivan got his out of the way in the first round; while Coetsee struggled to his on Sunday.

After his slow start, Sullivan fired off rounds of 65, 68, and 66 to win the Joburg Open with a 17-under 270, beating Coetsee by two strokes and winning his second European Tour even of the young season.

In sixth place and trailing the leader by three strokes headed into Sunday, Sullivan came out firing on all cylinders, recording five birdies on the front nine, and after a bogey on 11, adding two more on 15 and 18 to cement the win.

Sullivan thrived on the front nine throughout the tournament, racking up 14 birdies and just one bogey over the stretch of 36 holes there.

He wound up winning by to strokes over five different players who finished at 15-under. Coetsee, who had shot 66-65 on the first two days, finished just 1-under on the day, losing the lead on the sixth hole and never getting it back.
